Pre-Surrender History

Thor was one of the first four pigs ever rescued by ACR&S. In Summer 2001, the Orange County APS had seized 13 pigs which were being sold out ofa trash can at a flea market. Some had broken legs, others had injuries, and most were ill. They were rescued, neutered, and placed up for adoption through APS.

After about half of the thirteen were adopted, APS contacted ACR&S and asked if we could take the remaining six or seven. At the time we did not have a foster setup to allow for such a large surrender, but we promised that we'd make arrangements, and if any were left at APS after one month, we would take them. Four pigs were left, and we named them Freya, Odin, Loki, and Thor.

Medical History

In 2006, Thor started developing excess secretions inside his sheath, which would harden if not removed promptly. This required regular and frequent cleaning.

In December 2007, Thor showed a slight overgrowth of his lower incisors. They were trimmed, and he received a clean annual bill of health from the Animal Hospital of Verona.

Partners

2001-2003

Thor lived with Odin, Loki, and Freya until her death in 2002, and after that the three boys lived together till 2003.

2003-2008

In 2003, the trio were entered into the Sanctuary. They were placed with another two Sanctuary pigs, Greyly and Brownie (AKA Brownly). By the time he died in 2008, Brownly was Thor's sole remaining partner.

Foster History

Thor and his cohort were never placed into foster.

Adoption History

Thor and his cohort were never adopted, possibly because we were asking that all be adopted as a group. The group became Sanctuary residents after being up for adoption for 3 years with no takers.

Death

Thor was found dead in his cage on the morning of February 17, 2008. We estimate he was about 7 and a half years old at the time of death.
