Phedre
From ACRSWiki
Phedre is an intact, female rat. She is a 'wild' type agouti color.
She is very neat, and litterbox trained. She dislikes being dirty, and will 'neaten' her cage to avoid clutter.

Pre-Surrender History
Phedre was originally purchased from Petco as a "feeder" rodent by the co-worker of a volunteer. She escaped the snake's enclosure and ran "wild" in the house for nearly a week before being recaptured. The intent of the original owner was to return her to Petco. Our volunteer took her in around October of 2007.
Medical History
Phedre came to ACRS with a rather severe respiratory infection.
Over a period of several months, she was treated with doxycycline, baytril, bactrim, and baytril/doxycycline. X-rays in January 2008 revealed no lung clouding or fluid, and she was put onto prednisone (a steroid) and albuterol (a bronchiodiallator) to provide relief from what was diagnosed as lung scarring. In all probability, her lungs are scarred because she was sick upon entering Petco, and spent so long untreated.
Because her condition so closely mirrored that of Dora and Daphne, who were chronically ill with respiratory problems, the decision was made to keep her as a sanctuary animal in perpetuity, since her lifespan would likely be short, and she would need daily medication for the rest of her life.
Partner
Phedre is currently living with another female rat named Cecilie. Cecilie was taken in from a private rescuer as a companion rat when no others were available in the area. They are very closely bonded, and spend much of their time snuggled up to sleep together.
Upon the intake of Liliane, Phedre became more withdrawn, and she and Ysandre were paired together as they had similar special needs.
Foster History
Phedre initially fostered with Andi in Chapel Hill.
She stayed with Jenn in Morrisville for one weekend, and then moved her way into Jenn's house once it became evident that she was unadoptable.
Death
Phedre passed away on December 25, 2008, in her sleep.
